From POWDERSAVE to SAVECOAT
History
Almost 15 years ago Dr. Peter Kreier (founder and CEO of Innotest AG) and co. invented an airborn ultrasonic technology for touchless measurement of uncured powdercoatings (before going trough the oven). The UT-signal is immediately processed to deliver the final thickness of the cured coating.
The patented technology was subsequently built and distributed as POWDERSAVE I and POWDERSAVE II in license by Ramseier Technologies AG (RTAG).
Over than 10 years Powdersave and related labels worldwide have been unique as airborn ultrasonic powder thickness gage. In Spring 2010 DeFelsko® started to launch their own device PosiTector® PC Powder Checker. The resales of the obviously cost optimized unit has been pushed with a huge marketing effort.

Parallel to DeFelsko® the Ramseier Koating Technologies AG (rescue company of RTAG) started to resale the identical unit of DeFelsko® with the own label PowderSave XP. The misleading name unfortunately upsets different technologies and is the origin of some confusions.
Time has not stopped …
Time has not stopped for Innotest as well. Innotest AG has used the past few years to expand and enhance their thickness and coating measurement competence and technology. In August 2010 substantially more powerful powder coating thickness measurements gauges with the registered trademark ®SAVECOAT 7 have been launched by Innotest AG. In advance to gages for touchless powder coating thickness measurements, gages for touchless measure of wet paint and rubber etc. will be part of the ®SAVECOAT family. In addition Add-ons and available soft- and hardware options (e.g. fast interfaces to networks, robotics etc.) will expand the field of applications.
Direct comparison prove
Third party measurement series carried out with a robot prove the superiority of the established Innotest technology in the important upper thickness range. Above about 70 microns the unit of the competitor just delivers wrong interpretations “caot to thick”.
